A Day in Tucson! Last Stop…Trail Dust Town!!

Our last stop of the day was a cute place called “Trail Dust Town”.  What a fun place! We had a great time taking pictures all around “the town”.

Cramming into the telephone booth was not easy, especially with Stan jumping in at the last minute after setting the timer on the camera!

The Railroad Train took us for a tour around the town.  If you ever go, ride it at night.

The boys waited and waited for someone to come shine their shoes, but nobody ever showed up!

And our “Day in Tucson” came to an end.  It was a fun-filled day!  As much as we would have liked to eat at the fancy cowboy restaurant in Trail Dust Town, we opted to go the cheap route and pick up Taco Bell on the way home. :)  We got home about 11:00 pm and crashed as soon as we walked in the door. It was so nice having a little mini vacation with my sweet family, and it was even nicer that it didn’t cost us much $.  We will definitely do it again!

A Day in Tucson! Second Stop-Mission San Xavier del Bac

After the zoo we headed over to a National Historical Landmark-Mission San Xavier del Bac, an old Catholic Mission.  This church was built in the 1700’s.  It was a pretty amazing sight!

It was a neat place to visit.  They also have a free museum, but it closed before we got there.  After we toured the mission, we had to take advantage of the homemade Fried Bread they were selling outside of the mission and bought a piece to share.  Yummy!

There’s more fun to come! Our next stop…Trail Dust Town! Stay tuned for some fun pictures.

A Day in Tucson! First Stop…Reid Park Zoo

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve lived in Arizona all of my life and have never been to Tucson (unless I went when I was little and have no recollection of it).  I guess I’ve never had any reason to go.  Recently though, a couple of different friends mentioned how great the Reid Park Zoo is.  With Good Friday coming up, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to experience Tucson with my family.  We woke up early on Friday morning and headed to the Reid Park Zoo.  I have to say that we loved it! Unlike the Phoenix Zoo, you can actually SEE the animals (wink, wink, Susan).  :)   The zoo is smaller than the Phoenix Zoo yet you see so much more…and smaller means less walking!  Another reason we liked it is because it’s so much cheaper than the Phoenix Zoo!  We took a ton of pictures, but I’ll just post a few. :)

To see the monkeys and elephants up close was awesome, and it was so much fun watching the polar bear swim.

We had heard about the albino peacock and were happy that we ran into it.  There were a ton of gorgeous peacocks all throughout the zoo.

If you know me well, you know that I LOVE Giraffes! There’s a story behind my love for giraffes, but besides that I just think they are one of the most beautiful animals in the world.  It was so AMAZING to be able to get an up close and personal look at them.  I could have watched them all day!

This was my very first time feeding a giraffe.  I was pretty excited about it!

"Son of Man" project

"Three nationally known artists have joined together to share their witnesses of Jesus Christ through a stage musical. Their efforts, now known as the Son of Man Project, combine the artwork of renowned Christian artist Liz Lemon Swindle, the music of acclaimed composer Kenneth Cope, and the writings of religious scholar Susan Easton-Black. At completion, the Son of Man project will include a four-volume book series, an original two-volume musical score, and over one hundred paintings and sketches celebrating the life of the Savior."

March Highlights

I have some catching up to do! We had a busy March. Here are some of the highlights:

I went with Dallin and his pre-school on a field trip to the zoo.  It ended up being a pretty cold day and by lunchtime it was windy and pouring rain.  We left early, but enjoyed ourselves while it lasted.

I was excited to ride the carousel with Dallin.  After I buckled him up, I stood beside him waiting for the carousel to start.  Much to my dismay, Dallin looked at me and said, “Okay Mom…you can get off now.”  I looked at him and asked, “You don’t want me to ride the carousel with you??” “No” he said.  Well okay then!! So I got off the carousel and watched my big boy ride it all by himself.  I think I was the only Mom NOT riding the carousel with their child.  That’s okay…I was able to get some good pictures of him.

For my Mom’s b-day this year, we surprised her with a picture of all 34 grandkids.  This was no easy feat ya know! Trying to get all 34 kids looking at the camera at the same time is an impossibility, but I think they did pretty good…only one crying kid.:) Believe it or not, this picture is already outdated.  My sister Melody had grandchild #35 a few days ago, and we have 3 more on the way!! The oldest grandchild (Kyle-in the middle) is almost 19 and is holding the youngest grandchild-Mara who will be 1 in May. I love every single one of these cute kids.  They are precious to me! There’s not a rotten one in the whole bunch! :)

During Spring Break, two of our nephews on the Roberts side (Neal & Sean Jordan) stayed with us for a few days.  It was fun having them over.

St. Patrick’s Day breakfast.  The Leprechaun's turned our milk green AGAIN!! We had yummy GREEN pop up pancakes for breakfast.  The boys set up traps for the Leprechauns again this year, but once again…no luck.  The leprechauns were nice enough though to leave behind some coins and treats for them to enjoy.

Attending the Easter Pageant at the Mesa LDS Temple is one of our favorite things to do at Easter time.  We ran into some Roman Soldiers.  They let the boys hold their swords for the picture.  Afterwards Dallin said, “That was heavy!”

Dallin was lucky enough to pet one of the lambs that was in the pageant.

Parker and I had a fun Mother/Son night on March 26th.  The school hosted a Mother/Son Bingo night.  Parker was so close to winning the blackout round.  He only had 1 more space to go! That’s okay.  We still had a great time.  Afterwards we went to Mi Amigos and then Dairy Queen.  I’m a lucky mom to have such a great kid!

A few random pictures:
Even though they are 6 years apart, Parker includes Dallin in everything that he does.

They are lucky to have each other.

I loved this “self portrait” that Cassie took of herself.

So there you have it…March in a nutshell.  Now onto April…
